All members of the faculty are eligible to propose a UW Collegium Seminar. Prior experience teaching freshmen or leading seminars is not required, but evidence of successful teaching must be available to the selection committee. We are excited to continue to leverage the Collegium Seminars as a space where the teaching and learning of leadership can be made more explicit in the classroom. Read our Call for Proposals.
Due to the current climate, we are pausing the Collegium Seminar program for the 2023-2024 academic year. If you have additional questions please email ljwiles@uw.edu.
The Husky Leadership Initiative and First Year Programs are weaving the theme of leadership throughout all Collegium Seminars to support the University of Washington’s vision of educating “a diverse student body to become responsible global citizens and future leaders.” We believe that the teaching and learning of leadership needs to be made more explicit in an undergraduate education as leadership is something that grows out of experience, practice and continual reflection. As the Collegium Seminars introduce first-year students to the intellectual life of the university, we hope students will begin to equate their developing identity as an intellectual with having the responsibility and opportunity to engage in leadership and apply their growing knowledge in service to the world.
Faculty are provided $1,000 for each seminar they instruct.

Collegium Seminars are 1 credit, discussion-based seminars intended to introduce first year students to the excitement of ideas and the richness of academic discovery.
For faculty, teaching a freshman seminar in the UW Collegium Seminar program is unlike most other routine instruction.
